TPB Requirements

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) regulates tax practitioners to protect and assure consumers that use tax agent services that tax practitioners meet the professional standards of professional and ethical conduct.

New Client Verification

To ensure compliance with the requirements of the TPB, Merrotts requires identification verification of clients and client entities prior to providing Taxation and Bas services.

The provision of this information is essential to meet our regulatory requirements and is integral in the delivery of taxation and BAS services. Identity verification helps to mitigate identity theft and fraudulent activity for both our firm and our clients.

Prior to the commencement of an engagement for new clients, proof of identity checks for new clients or their representatives will apply ands and this will consist of:

  • Identifying through our relevant ID verification check portal of clients and representatives as necessary
  • Confirming the authority of any individual with the right to instruct Merrotts on behalf of the new client.

TPB Register

The TPB register contains details of registered Tax Agents and Bas Agents. It also includes any restriction on the Tax Agents services, includes and breaches of the Code Of Professional Conduct and any sanctions imposed on a Tax Agent that are on public record.
